The Ice Planer Created Uniform Blocks and Lots of Ice Chips!

Ramp to the elevator house - pump house to left housing
the rotary pumps which washed away the ice shavings
from the planer (half way up the ramp).
Huge piles of ice shavings accumulated under the ramp.
Close up of lower ramp, pump house, and planer (upper right)
as ramp approaches the ice house.
Ice block being planed -
to make them all uniformly sized
and easier to stack in the ice house.

  1. Thank you for posting these pictures and informant. My grandfather, along with his dad, were icemen of Bantam Lake. I enjoyed walking among the remnants of that history.
